Wondering the difference between Cricut Window Cling vs Vinyl? Read all about it here!

Window stickers look all fun and games until you have to peel them off, and there’s a sticky mess behind. You spend plenty of time scraping the remaining glue, but the glass still looks blurry from some places, leaving you annoyed. That’s when you think if the material you’re using is right or do you need something better?

Once I was working on a home window decal project and used vinyl stickers all over the place. Although vinyl showed great results, the cleaning effort made me dislike it. That’s when I explored more options and came across Cricut window cling, a mess-free alternative to vinyl. (Check out this window cling art gallery idea!)

But do you need Cricut window cling, or you’re better with vinyl? If you’re pondering this question, read on, and I’ll explain it to you!

Primary Differences Between Cricut Window Cling vs Vinyl

Although Cricut window cling and vinyl are suitable for many non-porous surfaces, you cannot use them everywhere without considering their key features.

Here are some factors setting Cricut Window Cling vs Vinyl:

Adhesiveness

Vinyl stickers have an adhesive backing that clings to the target surface, i.e., a glass window. This adhesive keeps the sticker in place and ensures the graphic stays on for a long period.

On the flip side, the Cricut window cling doesn’t have an adhesive backing and sticks to a surface via static energy. Once you cut a Cricut pattern and transfer the foil to your glass window, only the pre-cut design will go onto the target surface and stay there because of the static.

Weather-Resistance

Thanks to their durable material and good-quality printing, vinyl stickers can stay on a surface for months on end. If it rains or the sun shines extra bright, a good-quality vinyl decal won’t lose its shine and design.

However, the Cricut window cling cannot bear even the slightest amount of humidity. If raindrops hit the Cricut cling, its design will be ruined. That’s why Cricut window cling is only useful for indoor projects where rain and sunlight cannot impact its colors.

Ease-of-use

Applying vinyl stickers to the target surface is time-consuming because of their adhesive backing. You will have to move a pre-cut vinyl design to the transferring sheet and paste it to the window. On the other hand, the Cricut window cling is easy-to-apply and suitable for quick tasks. Once your design is ready, start the Cricut maker and print it. Bring the newly made design to your preferred window and transfer it – no cutting or gluing is needed.

Longevity

Longevity is the major difference between vinyl and Cricut window cling. Vinyl stickers are impressively durable and weather-resistant; you can leave these stickers on a car window for months and forget.

But things are different with the Cricut window cling. This material cannot survive heat, water, or harsh air because there’s no adhesive used in it. So if you need window cling for outdoor projects, vinyl is your answer.

Summing Up Cricut Window Cling VS Vinyl

If you love window cling and often cut intricate designs to decorate your place, Cricut window cling and vinyl are both suitable for you. However, as I explained earlier, the Cricut window cling is meant for indoor projects where humidity and sunlight don’t impact it. On the other hand, vinyl stickers put up a great fight against the weather and offer great results in outdoor projects.

Now that I have explained what sets the Cricut window cling apart from vinyl, I am sure you’ll pick a material more confidently and make something dashing out of it. When it comes to Cricut Window Cling vs Vinyl, which are you going to pick? Happy crafting!
