How To Use 3D Puff Vinyl With The Cricut EasyPress 2

Sharing is caring!

Puff heat transfer vinyl is a special htv that when applied properly it creates a puff effect on your material or shirt. This 3d puff heat transfer vinyl was so unique that I had to try it.

For puff htv to expand correctly you need the right amount of pressure, which is hard to do with the Cricut EasyPress.

Heat Transfer Warehouse was amazing enough to send over their WalaKut Puff Vinyl. So I tested things for 2 weeks, and just when I was ready to give up a friend had a suggestion that actually worked.

Weeding this 3d vinyl was super easy. It reminded me of 1 of my favorite easy to weed vinyl brands.

The history of puff vinyl is unknown. But I am an 80s baby and I swear I remember seeing graphic shirts in the 90s with designs that were raised from the fabric.

This puff 3D vinyl is a specialty vinyl that with heat and the right amount of pressure it expands and leaves you with an amazingly unique design with a matte finish that raises up off of the vinyl.

Wala Kut Puff vinyl htv is the first 3D vinyl that I have used. Flock vinyl is also 3 dimensional. However, if you are looking for a real pop then this specialty material is the way to go!

How Long Do You Press Puff Vinyl?

3D puff vinyl products are, with a traditional heat press at 310° F with medium pressure. However with the EasyPress 2 this product line of 3D vinyl the press is a little different.

With the Cricut EasyPress, the temperature is actually the same. And you still press it for 10 seconds but you need extremely heavy pressure.

What I did was place a towel down. My mat was a little too puffy to get the right amount of pressure. I placed the towel and situated my shirt. Then I aligned the vinyl and placed the press on top of the puff vinyl, and put all of my body weight on it for 10 seconds.

This was after a ton of testing and failing and a little help from some friends of mine. I was so excited when I got it right, I mean the results are beautiful as you can see!

If you want to do this project with a traditional heat-press, then check out this post. Country Chic Cottage shows you all the settings.

with the puff, have you ever run into an issue with it shriveling? sometimes it puffs perfectly and other times it seems to shrivel up (then easily peels right off of the fabric)... i have played around with temp, time and pressure but can't find a rhyme or reason to this stuff!

Shriveling means that you need more pressure.

You meant 10 seconds in this part of your post right? The rest of the post referenced the time as 10 seconds, just want to be sure! Here is the part you said minutes:

"With the Cricut EasyPress, the temperature is actually the same. And you still press it for 10 minutes but you need extremely heavy pressure"

Love your site/blog/emails!!! Big fan! Thank you for this very cool intro into puff vinyl, can't wait to try it!

What is the difference between an Easy Press and an Easy Press 2 and how can you tell which one you have?
