This patterned Mama shirt combines printable patterned lettering with a vinyl outline to create a bold, high-end look using Cricut Design Space. In this class, you’ll take provided SVGs and patterns, separate and prep each letter, add a clean outlined border, and layer DTV and glitter HTV for a polished finish.
This project is perfect if you want to understand how patterned lettering actually works — not just follow a file and hope for the best.

Design Space Skills You’ll Learn in This Project
This class focuses on advanced lettering and mixed-material workflows inside Cricut Design Space.
You’ll learn how to:
- Upload SVG files and prepare them for editing
- Separate individual letters using Slice
- Resize shapes accurately without distorting designs
- Upload and manage custom Patterns
- Switch layers between Print Then Cut and Basic Cut
- Apply patterned fills to individual letters
- Create clean outlines using Offset
- Use Subtract to form outlined borders
- Manage print size limitations strategically
- Prepare layered projects that combine DTV and HTV
- Troubleshoot and fix weeding errors without re-cutting
These skills apply to patterned shirts, varsity-style lettering, custom apparel, and mixed-material Cricut projects.
Step 4: Print, Cut, Weed, and Press
Once your design is ready:
- Print patterned letters using Print Then Cut with bleed turned on
- Use system dialog settings and select best print quality
- Cut printed DTV sheets using Cricut
- Cut vinyl outline separately with Mirror ON
- Weed vinyl carefully, saving small pieces if needed
For pressing:
- Pre-press the shirt lightly to find center
- Press the vinyl outline first (about 20 seconds at 340°F)
- Repair any missing vinyl pieces using heat tape if needed
- Place patterned letters inside the vinyl outline
- Press with medium pressure for 20–25 seconds
- Peel hot and remove masking
Your patterned Mama shirt is now finished.
Project Tips
- Always stretch shapes from the corners to avoid overlap issues
- Printing patterns separately avoids printer size limitations
- Glitter HTV is forgiving if small pieces lift or tear
- Layering vinyl first creates a placement guide for DTV
