Why You Should Make An Easter Basket For Your Kids
It wouldn’t be Easter for kids without collecting Easter eggs and other Easter treats. The easter egg hunt is definitely my kid’s favorite part of the day!
Plus, it’s a fun way for the family to spend quality time together.
These are also a good idea if you are hosting an Easter party or even an Easter-themed birthday party. It’s a great way to give every kid at the party their own unique basket where they can collect their Easter gifts!
How To Make Your Own DIY Easter Basket
You can make your own wicker baskets if you want. But I prefer to buy mine at the Michaels or JoAnns!
You can get them in various easter colors, and they aren’t too expensive, depending on where you shop.
Then, I like grabbing some tissue paper or lace to line the basket. This gives it a little extra personalization.
Lastly, I recommend adding a tag with your kid’s name. This will avoid any fights between your kids about whose basket is whose!
So, if you can get the wicker baskets and tissue paper at the store, how do you make the Easter basket tags? Let’s take a look!

Materials
- Unfinished Wood Beads (I used a combination of larger and smaller beads.)
- Paint Brush
- White, Yellow, and Purple Chalk Paint (or any other soft pastel colors)
- Twine
- Grey Oracle Permanent 651 Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- DAS Air Dry Paper Clay
- Bunny Shaped Cookie Cutter (and any other shapes you want)
- Wax Paper (optional)
- Straw or Cake Pop Stick
Tools
- Cricut Machine
- Light Blue Grip Cricut Mat
- Cricut Weeding Tool
- Cricut Scraper Tool
Instructions
- To simplify the clean-up process, lay down some wax paper on your work surface. This step is optional but will make your life much easier after making these Easter Basket tags.
- Place the clay on your work surface, and add a couple of drops of water if it seems dry.
- Using a rolling pin, or something similar, roll out the DAS Air Dry Paper Clay to be a quarter inch thick on your work surface. You want the top surface of the clay to have a smooth surface, so flip it over a few times and roll it out as needed.
- Next, use your cookie cutter to cut the shapes out of the clay. I used a bunny-shaped cookie cutter, but you can use any Easter shape cookie cutter you want.
- Before you start letting the tag dry, you need to add a hole near the edge of the tag to hang on the Easter basket. To do this, use a straw or cake pop stick to poke a hole at the top of your cut-out shape. I recommend keeping the straw or stick in the tag while it dries to avoid the hole closing.
- Set aside to dry for 24 - 28 hours. (Note - this doesn't need any heat. Just leave it somewhere it is cool and dry in your home.)
- Once your clay has dried in a day or two, it is time to paint the shape with white chalk paint. Once every shape is painted, set aside to dry again.
- While your shape cut-out is drying, you can paint your wood beads with the other easter colors you chose!
- Once all the paint has dried on the clay shape, thread the twine through the hole at the top of the cut-out shape. To keep it in place, tie a knot at the hole.
- Next, string the wood beads onto the twine.
- Tie a not at the top of the last bead in the twine.
- Now that your Easter basket tag is made, it is time to personalize it! I used my Cricut cutting machine for this, but you can use any cutting machine.
- In Cricut Design Space (or Silhouette Studio,) create a design with the name. Use whatever font and colors you want. It's important to keep in mind the size of your tag and the length of the name. If you aren't sure, measure the size of each design before printing.
- Once you're happy with the size, lay your vinyl onto your blue mat. Ensure you've selected the right materials in Cricut Design Space before printing.
- Next, place the transfer tape onto the vinyl (face down) where the name was cut out. Then, you can use your weeding tool to remove all the excess vinyl until only the letters remain on the transfer tape. (If your letters aren't sticking to the transfer tape, use your scraper tool or credit card to press it in.
- Remove the vinyl backing from the letters. Then, apply the transfer tape to the clay Easter basket tags to transfer the design. To successfully transfer your vinyl design, use your scraper tool or a credit card. This will help press the vinyl to the clay shape.
- Lastly, tie the Cricut Easter Basket tag to the Easter basket, and you're done! Of course, if you want to add any other decoration, you can.
