It can really difficult to get kids excited about going to school or doing any sort of work in general. With these pencil toppers, they will get excited when it comes time to use them.

Encouraging kids so very important, even thought it can be a pretty difficult task. What better way to get them interested than to add some arts and crafts to the mix?!

These toppers will sit at the ends of their pencils and make working a little bit more fun for them. They can make different kinds and name them if they want to!

Whether you choose to make your pencil toppers with a Cricut machine or simply with scissors and glue is completely up to you. Here, you have options, and no option is better than the other.

If you choose to use your Cricut machine, there are free SVG files available to you. If you would like to use scissors, there are free templates that you can use.

No matter which option you choose, you will be left with the most adorable pencil toppers you could make. There are different animals you can choose from too!

How To Make Adorable Felt Pencil Toppers With Free Templates

Prep Time: 5 minutes

It can really difficult to get kids excited about going to school or doing any sort of work in general. With these pencil toppers, they will get excited when it comes time to use them.

Materials

  • Felt sheets (any coordinating colors of your choosing - we used white and light blue for the cloud, black for the eyes and mouth, pink for the cheeks, two shades of blue, coral, orange and green for the rays)
  • Printable Pattern Template or 
  • SVG file 
  • Fabric scissors
  • Hot glue gun and clear glue sticks
  • Printable pencil topper template
  • Pencils

Tools

  • Cricut Maker machine with rotary tool for SVG (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather supplies.
  2. Print off paper pattern template. (see notes for Cricut) 
  3. Place the owl/frog/penguin pattern pieces over top of felt sheets in the color of your choosing. 
  4. Using fabric scissors, cut along the solid lines to cut out the pattern pieces.
  5. Preheat the hot glue gun.
  6. Carefully glue the smaller felt pieces (the owl belly, eyes, and beak) to the largest felt owl piece pressing in place.
  7. Apply a bead of glue along the outer edges of the smaller body piece leaving the bottom without glue.
  8. Press the prepared owl front piece to the back piece and press in place until the glue sets.
  9. Carefully glue the smaller felt pieces (the frog belly and eyes) to the largest felt frog piece pressing in place.
  10. Apply a bead of glue along the outer edges of the smaller body piece leaving the bottom without glue.
  11. Press the prepared frog front piece to the back piece and press in place until the glue sets.
  12. Carefully glue the smaller felt pieces (the penguin belly, eyes, and beak) to the largest felt penguin piece pressing in place.
  13. Apply a bead of glue along the outer edges of the smaller body piece leaving the bottom without glue.
  14. Press the prepared penguin front piece to the back piece and press in place until the glue sets.
  15. Insert a pencil into the felt animal toppers and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Upload the SVG to Cricut design space.
  2. Using fabric grip mat, cut all of the pieces using the colors of your choosing.
  3. Cut two pieces of the cloud pattern, two pieces for the eyes and cheeks, and one piece for the remaining patterns.
  4. Follow the instructions above to put the pieces together.
