This Best Mom Ever card is a full paper project that walks you through designing, cutting, writing, and assembling a finished card and matching envelope inside Cricut Design Space. In this class, you’ll customize the card text, build layered inserts, add score lines correctly, and use the Cricut pen feature for a handwritten look.

This is a great project if you want to feel confident making cards from scratch instead of just cutting pre-made files.

Step 1: Shop the Supplies

Materials

  • Cardstock (white and patterned)
  • Cardstock paper stack (Park Lane stack used in this project)
  • Craft bond tape runner or glue runner

Step 2: Download the Files

This project includes a card SVG and a matching envelope SVG. Download both files from the link in the description and upload them into Cricut Design Space.

Step 3: Watch the Video Tutorial

In the video, you’ll learn how to: – Customize card text using Cricut and system fonts – Design a multi-layer card layout – Add writing text using a Cricut pen – Create a matching envelope with score lines

This class focuses on card-making fundamentals inside Cricut Design Space.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Upload and ungroup SVG files
  • Add and format text for cards
  • Filter fonts to show free Cricut fonts
  • Use system fonts alongside Cricut fonts
  • Resize and align text precisely
  • Add and assign Score Lines correctly
  • Use Attach to keep score lines with cut layers
  • Set text layers to Pen instead of cut
  • Choose pen sizes inside Design Space
  • Manage multi-material mats in one project
  • Troubleshoot missing score line attachments

These skills apply to greeting cards, invitations, envelopes, and paper stationery projects.

Step 4: Cut, Write, and Assemble

Once your design is ready:

  • Assign score lines to all card and envelope layers
  • Attach score lines to their matching shapes
  • Set writing layers to Pen and choose pen size
  • Load scoring tool and blade when prompted
  • Cut and write all pieces using appropriate cardstock settings

For assembly:

  • Fold all pieces along score lines
  • Assemble the envelope using a tape runner
  • Glue the insert layers onto the inside of the card
  • Center and attach the written message panel
  • Slide the finished card into the envelope

Your Best Mom Ever card and envelope are now complete.

  • Always attach score lines or they will cut on separate mats
  • Remove the mat from the paper to prevent curling
  • Writing layers must be set to pen, not basic cut
  • Layering inserts prevents text from showing through
