I went through hell and high water trying to learn how to make a word search puzzle for a Cricut Mothers Day Idea I had for a gift.

I searched all over the internet for DIY word search maker and word search puzzles you create and I couldn’t find anything helpful. So all that was left was creating 1 on my own.

I tried to make my word search puzzle in Adobe Photoshop and also directly in Cricut Design Space. Neither worked. I couldn’t figure out how to align the letters.

How To Make A Word Search Puzzle For Free

I ended up opening google sheets to make it. Why? Because it made sense, there are already sales in the program so all you have to do is enter your words and your random letters with no commas or spaces. I didn’t but You can also add the word list right in Google Sheets.

Using this method to make a DIY Word Search will also work I’m sure with a crossword puzzle and its answer key. Using Google Sheets as a puzzle maker was one of the best ideas I have had in a while!

The instructions on how to make a word search are super easy, and I made an easy-to-follow video tutorial so you can DIY your own word search.

Using this tutorial and your Cricut machine you can make some amazing gifts. You can even make and sell these on Etsy or even at craft sales in your area.

Instructions

  1. Open a new sheet. In this example, I am using 14 columns and 13 rows. But you can use as many as you want. Opening a new google sheet. In this example, I am using 14 columns and 13 rows.

  6. Next highlight the rows to plan to use in your wordsearch. And then right-click to see the dropdown. how to make a word search

  10. The first thing you are going to do is type all of the names into your word search. how to make a word search
  11. Highlight the whole thing and center all of your text. As you can see I used whatever the default font is, but you can use any font you like. diy word search
  12. Fill in the remaining boxes with random letters until it is completely full. diy word search
  13. Finally, you can either screenshot the file, or what I did was save it as a PDF and opened it in Adobe Illustrator, and converted it to an SVG file to use with my Cricut.diy word search
