Whether you’re hosting a party, enjoying a drink at home, or want a tumbler you can take out while your kids are trick-or-treating, a Halloween tumbler is an excellent addition to your Halloween decorations.

That’s why I want to show you how to create a unique tumbler that will light up your Halloween celebrations.

But first, let’s delve into the benefits of using sublimation for crafting projects like this.

What Are The Benefits Of Making Sublimation Tumblers?

Sublimation is a unique printing method that offers a range of advantages for crafting enthusiasts like us!

Unlike traditional vinyl decals or stickers, sublimation allows you to create vibrant, long-lasting designs that won’t peel or fade over time.

This technique also provides the freedom to print intricate, full-color images, making it perfect for detailed Halloween-themed designs.

Sublimation also offers excellent adhesion, ensuring your tumbler’s design stays intact even after numerous washes.

What Kind Of Tumbler Should You Use For So It Will Glow In The Dark?

Choosing the right tumbler is crucial for the success of your glow-in-the-dark sublimation project.

You’ll need a dark tumbler blank to get that all-important glow effect for this project. You can even buy dark sublimation tumblers specific for glow-in-the-dark projects like this.

Either of these stainless steel tumblers will provide the best results for your sublimated design and ensure the best color vibrancy and durability thanks to the dark feature.

You’ll also need to consider factors like size, shape, and lid type based on your preferences and intended use.

For instance, I like the tumblers with a plastic lid, but you may not, so do your research when buying your own tumbler.

Some tumbler blanks include additional features, like a plastic straw, a double wall to keep warm and cold beverages longer, or a rubber grip on the bottom.

Look at all the product information before buying your tumbler.

What Other Tools and Materials You’ll Need For Your Sublimation Glow-In-The-Dark Tumblers

In addition to your dark sublimation tumbler blanks, you’ll also need a few essential tools and materials to ensure a smooth crafting process:

  1. Sublimation Printer: To print your designs onto sublimation paper accurately.
  2. Sublimation Ink: Specially formulated ink that turns into a gas when heated, bonding with the tumbler’s surface.
  3. Sublimation Paper: This allows you to transfer your designs from the full page to the tumbler because it can withstand the heat and pressure needed.
  4. Heat Press: Essential for transferring the sublimation ink onto the tumbler. While a tumbler press or mug press will give you the best results, you may be able to use a convection oven. The only thing you’ll have to look out for is even heat throughout your convectional oven.
  5. Heat-Resistant Tape: Secures the sublimation paper in place during the heat press process.
  6. Gloves: Protect your hands from the heat of the press, otherwise you risk burning yourself.
  7. Heat-Resistant Mat: Provides a safe surface for pressing.
  8. Print Image: The design you’ll use for your sublimation glow-in-the-dark tumblers. I’ve created a design you can have for free below!
  9. Design Software: If you want to create your own Halloween-themed designs instead, you’ll need design software.

How to Care for Your Sublimation Glow-In-The-Dark Tumblers

To make sure your Halloween tumbler lasts for many spooky seasons to come, you’ll need to take proper care of it. Here are a few tips to keep your tumbler looking its best.

Hand Wash Only

While throwing your tumbler in the dishwasher for a quick clean may be tempting, it’s important to remember that most Halloween tumblers are not dishwasher-safe.

The high heat and harsh detergents can cause the design to fade or peel.

Instead, hand wash your tumbler with mild soap and warm water. Also, use a soft sponge or cloth to gently clean the tumbler.

Don’t Soak Your Glow-In-The-Dark Tumbler

While it’s important to clean your tumbler thoroughly, it’s equally important not to soak it for an extended period of time.

Soaking can cause the design to fade or peel. Instead, clean your tumbler promptly after use and dry it thoroughly.

Store Your Sublimation Tumbler Carefully

When not in use, store your tumbler in a safe place where it won’t get knocked around or damaged. Avoid stacking your tumbler with other items, as this can cause scratches or chips in the design.

Don’t Leave It Out In Direct Sunlight For Too Long

You should also avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for too long, as the UV light can cause the colors in your design to fade over time.

By following these simple care instructions, you can ensure that your Halloween tumbler stays looking spooky and stylish for years to come!
